I wanted to share something that may be interesting to a number of you. I took some time to write down some questions for my parents to get an idea of what their perspective on ultimate looks like. My dad generously went through and answered them rather thoroughly, so I'm going to copy and paste the email below.
To me, these answers are a good way to see how Enigma (and the sport in general) looks to the parents who are sometimes on our sidelines.

1) What was your experience with ultimate before your kids became obsessed with the sport? Mom knew nothing of the sport. I actually did a presentation my freshman year of high school about Frisbee and it included ultimate as a game that can be played with a Frisbee.

2) Have you ever played ultimate? Before we started playing? Yes, I played Ultimate at the youth group outing with you. It was a pick up game and the rules were very relaxed. Played in the Dayton league last summer. It was much more competitive and I really needed to be in better shape. I wish I had played when I was running more. No games prior to you three playing.

3) What do you think of the stereotypes (eg. hippies)?
Mom did not know there were these stereotypes. Now she is worried! I knew of the stereotypes, but related it more to just the free-spirit of throwing the frisbee around. We both have been more impressed by the character of players. Yes there is some colorful language and commentary, but that is pretty common in most adult sports. We would not have allowed Chase to participate with the older guys if we felt they were a bad / negative influence. I always tell others about the positive sense of community and sportsmanship to those who do not know the sport.

4) You both have been to some tournaments, what do you think of ultimate tournaments (regarding the teams, atmospheres, typical characters there)? Dad, how did this compare to going to the Revolution games for you? We both enjoy the tournaments. Most of them have a fun festive feel to them. I really enjoy the camaraderie between teammates and even among teams. It is also neat to see different personalities coming together; somewhat like animal house where everyone fits. I wonder if that is true for all teams or not. I could imagine there being some clique type (selective) teams where they only want “jocks’'. Watching the Men’s club championship online seemed to show two teams that were made up strictly of the stereotypical athlete. I could be wrong and I do not know the teams, but watching online I did not see all of the personalities that seemed to show up in the “local” tourneys.
The Revolution game had the feel of a minor league baseball game. You knew that the teams had top line talent and there was a new level of seriousness that I had not seen in Enigma tournaments. There was also a feel of being around celebrities (but they were approachable), whereas the tournaments that Enigma played in felt more like the good old softball tourneys I played in back in the day. Everyone was playing to win, but to have a good time doing it. 5) What do you think of a college experience (and the selection of a school) possibly being impacted by his ultimate career?
It will be interesting to see how colleges recognize ultimate teams in the future. I am not sure how many high school players know of the college teams and their level of success. We are fortunate that the college championships were here in the area. It exposed U-16 and U-19 players to the teams and the level of play. I suppose more experienced and talented younger players would want a college to have a club team and may be drawn to attend that college or a college with a nationally success team, but it really comes down to the programs / majors colleges offer. That is until ultimate scholarships become part of the financial decision.
6) Any final thoughts/comments?
The commitment that many of the Enigma players have made to the growth of ultimate in the southwest Ohio region has been impressive. It is great to see players reaching out to high schools to help coach and instruct players of all skills. It would be awesome to even see some joint practices or teaching scrimmages. Last of all a local tournament hosted by Enigma would be pretty cool to see.

2014 was a big year for Enigma, I hope it was as fun for you all as it was for me. I'm looking forward to 2015! More news on what 2015 will look like in the coming month or so.

Enigmen and Enigma fans,

Happy Holiday season! I figured it was time to put an end to the drought of blog posts on the Enigma page. You can look forward to a few more in the coming month or so as there are some news items that might be sort of important to our weird little community.

This post is mainly regarding our offseason improvement and the things we can do next season to be better as teammates and as a whole team. I've been working harder, earlier, this offseason to continue getting better. For example; despite not being in college, I played three college tournaments and joined Columbus league for the first time this year. It's important that we keep touching a disc (every day if possible).

Beyond just playing though, doing things to improve your athleticism is huge. Get in the weight room, go for runs, eat better; these are the things that great players tend to do and is the reason they are great. Let's put in the work now so that everything is easier in the summer!

Fudge sent this over today, and I think it's worth reading. He sent it out to Steamboat after reading about the psychology of climbing or something. I know it's hard to take him seriously with that haircut, but trust me when I say this stuff is quality:

Adjusting how we give and receive feedback. When providing feedback try to identify suggestions or possibilities to improve upon rather then telling or commanding the individual on what should be done. Also, know going into this we are all working together for the common goal of success on the field. Someone pointing out a suggestion is not a personal attack, it's them caring enough about you to want you to improve. As each individual improves, the TEAM progresses as well. We all put in the work, let's try to get the most out of each other.

Self Handicapping - rationalizing a lack of effort or performance to set your or other expectations lower. Think about a time on the field where you've said or thought something like "Woah, this chick/dude is way better than me. So if I don't get open this point, that's why". This ties back to ego and acceptance. We want people to like us and to be accepted, and we feel like we lose that if we get embarrassed. Setting expectations lower reduces that embarrassment and protects our shitty egos, but at the expense of living up to our self fulfilling prophecy of poor performance.

Fear of Failure - when we do fail, it's super common for the individual to blow out of proportion the magnitude others care about the failure. Making mistakes sucks. But it's fucking inevitable. Everyone does it, but we can adjust how react to failure, both as the individual who made the mistake, and as supportive team mates. Let's say you've got a cutter on their way in, they cut break, you see the lane and you've got space, but when you step out throw your wrist angles ever so slightly down and you turf it. Immediately your head drops. RIGHT HERE is where we start to fix this. YOUR reaction to failure is suggesting you want others to sympathize with you, console you, and prevent you from feeling left out of this group. It's OK to fail! You've learned something from it. Be the person who uplifts others rather than puts them down.

Performance Anxiety - this plagues us on universe point. This eats at us when we are stepping onto the line for the first time against a team that appears to be all studs. Instead of looking across the field and having a panic attack over how good this team might be, slow your roll! Take a deep breath and focus on what immediate things you can do to help the other 6 people on the line with you. Identify where you'll be forcing the cutter so you can make a play on the disc, know that you can be chill with the disc once you get it, then make the smart decision and clear.Focus on these small steps rather than "I've got to score a goal this point!". Focus on the progress rather than the result.

So take these things into consideration with your college teams, league teams, the Revolution; whoever you're playing with right now and they can carry over to Enigma when we start back up. It's not even Thanksgiving and I am already missing our 90 degree practices.

Last thing. If you didn't see, the Revolution are having 2 more open scrimmage type things and then their combine. If you have any desire to play for the Rev this year I highly recommend going out. Even if you don't want to play for the Rev, it's good ultimate and you'll get a chance to play with referees if I'm not mistaken.

Cheers,
Chad Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01432879854545563515noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877695363273545268.post-6722111383949805512014-09-10T06:09:00.003-07:002014-09-10T15:24:32.935-07:00Up Next: RegionalsWe are just over one week away from the culmination of all the work put in over the course of the last 4.5 months. The Great Lakes Regional Tournament is next weekend, and everything Enigma has set our sights on achieving is getting oh so close.

After a fifth place finish at Sectionals in Versailles, Enigma will be headed to Regionals seeded in the middle of the pack and ready to make memories in West Chester. We are excited for the chance to play the best teams that Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan have to offer, and we are glad to once again be a part of it.

Time for an Enigma history lesson!

This is the fifth time that Enigma has qualified for Regionals. The 2014 team's fifth place finish at Sectionals may be the worst Sectionals finish for Enigma since 2009, but this team lost only two games last weekend and played the toughest competition very close. Take a look at the Enigma history:

With two practices left in the season, every touch and every throw counts toward better performance next weekend. Enigma players should be preparing their bodies for the best competition they've seen all year and readying themselves to play their best ultimate at the right time.

The 2014 team has a chance to make a real name for Dayton Ultimate. This year was quite the change from last year, but Enigma still has the opportunity to do big things this weekend. Nothing is sweeter than ruining a tournament for another team. As a middle of the pack seed, we have the chance to do that. With an eye on the future, Enigma should push to finish as high as possible next weekend so that new opportunities may open up next season. ZERO ZERO

With that, the tryout process is over. We thank everyone who came out and made our decisions difficult, it really was tough picking the last few spots. We had great turnouts over the course of the last couple of months, and hopefully everyone had fun even if they didn’t make the roster. Please continue to come out to practice if you are interested. We’d love to help you become a better ultimate player and spend more time with all of you. Also, if anyone gets injured or simply can’t make a tournament we may be calling on some of our practice squad players to step in. Plus, if you ordered a jersey, we will still get that to you when they come in. If anyone still owes money, please get that in asap.

We are ready to get serious about the season ahead of us. Motown Throwdown and The Three Ring Rally are about a month away, so we have plenty of time to continue improving. Get your final roster dues ($20) to me so that we can pay for the Series.

We came in with expectations to compete for the Golden Gnome, and this weekend Enigma did a lot of competing for sure. Losing by 2 points in each of the first three games, at a tryout tournament, was frustrating. Backs against the wall though, Enigma was able to get a win to play for the gnome on Sunday. This was short lived, however, as we weren’t able to pull out the win over Castle. In the second game on Sunday, Enigma entered the 5th place bracket and won two games to capture 5th place. After all of that, it’s easy to see that the team has a lot to work on but it’s going to be a lot of fun to get this team where it needs to be come September.

Scinny is up next, in Lebanon, and this will be the last tryout tournament for the boys from Dayton. We will play some tougher teams at Scinny, but expect to be competitive and strive to win the Golden Gnome.

In the case of final roster players not making tournaments because of injury or other reasons, we will draw people from the practice squad to fill the gap.

A new administration has entered the Dayton League, ready to take over where Weyers left off. That’s right, now that Captain Crunch is out west, the White House is looking to keep the Dayton League title in the hands of the Enigma D line.

Great performances by all the local teams, including Cedarville (GOING TO DIII NATIONALS!). Sadly, the DI teams couldn’t get it done because Pitt is just a monster of a program. That said, UD played well this weekend and all of the Dayton teams had big seasons. Congrats to all of you!

There was some crazy action, and I mainly stayed around the Dayton teams, but there were some great surprises this weekend. Congratulations to everyone who is going to Regionals in two weeks.

Airstrike lost to both Case Western and Cincinnati on universe point, indicating things that might be coming in a couple weeks in Toledo.
The wind was terrible on Sunday, and UD was fortunate to get some upwind breaks at the beginning of the game which quickly put Wright State in a hole they could never get out of.

The Cincinnati Revolution took on the Madison Radicals, and played a hard fought game. Unfortunately, some unforced errors and bad decisions allowed Madison to go on a run that put them ahead for good during the second quarter. Our very own Jamie Horne and Chris Hoy did some good work as the announcers, and I’m looking forward to more of their work. This area of the Revolution experience is already much improved over last season. Get out there on Friday to support the Rev when they play Chicago!
The weather is getting warmer, the college season is flying by, and the club season is getting closer. Next Saturday, April 12, the Cincinnati Revolution open their season at home against the Madison Radicals! I plan on being there and you should too. As mentioned before, there is a large Enigma presence on the team, and afterwards they are having a cool open house/party type of thing at Rhinegeist in Cincinnati (stay tuned). A bunch of club teams will have representatives there to recruit. Come and help us out with the recruiting!

We are one week closer to the beginning of Enigma 2014. This past weekend was Boogie Nights at Miami, and it was a lot of fun. Enigmen were found on various teams, and potential recruits were everywhere.

Wright State ended up winning the tournament and seemed to be pretty dominant all weekend. The only close game was the last game of pool play on Saturday against UD Alumni. I was fortunate to be playing with Get Old Force for that game, and was impressed by many of the guys who will hopefully be joining Enigma this summer. Airstrike pulled that game out on universe point to get the 15-14 win. Oh, and Jack Kelly had possibly the best catch I’ve ever seen in my life. The kid has all sorts of #BallerLayouts

There really is a different feeling about this offseason. Seeing so many guys playing for the Revolution, and the excitement around watching them next month is awesome. Hearing great buzz about Enigmen lighting up the college game is fantastic. Knowing how many guys are getting involved at the youth level and in the local leagues is inspiring. Enigma is a major, MAJOR, part of the ultimate community; it’s an honor to know you’re a piece of that.

Hearing from numerous guys about how they are working to get ready for the summer is incredibly encouraging. Keep doing work yall!

Last thing. I saw that Ultiworld reported the AUDL will have at least a few of their games on ESPN3. That’s awesome news and I can’t wait to get more details! I have some interesting thoughts on how this impacts the whole pro league vs. pro league vs USAU saga, but that’s not really Enigma related, so I won’t get into that here. You can view my wall for what I think about that.

In Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus, our team is dedicating a lot of time and effort to teach ultimate to young players in those respective areas.

I have been in and around YUC for 4 years now, and did not expect to see as many high schoolers as I did. It’s an exciting time to be playing ultimate, and Enigmen were there in numbers.

Joe Z and myself (Chad) were fortunate enough to coach an awesome team of kids, and we had a blast. The lock-in was a major success for all parties involved.

This is great for the sport, and should be a good boost to their ticket sales as well. We also have a number of people involved in the YUC league as high school coaches. Tim will be coaching Springboro, Todd will likely be involved with either Sycamore or Milford after tax season, and of course we have the squadron of coaches at Centerville with Hoy, Joe Z, Z Knight, Allison, and Esteban. I’ll be involved with Centerville at a minimal level, but I am also coaching a first year program at Oakstone Academy in Columbus. (If I’m missing anyone, let me know)

It’s been a full year of leagues now, and he is gearing up the community for the second year of spring league. Awesome stuff.

Still, Dayton ultimate is thriving. The indoor winter leagues seem to be a success and the weather hasn’t stopped the local college teams as they travel south for warmer playing conditions (though superior competition might, I don’t know).

This year the snow was above the ankle (almost knee deep on Dilworth in some areas) Saturday morning and after an easy 11-1 win in the first game, Thunderpants the Magic Dragon lost the magic and the next two games. Sunday was easier running as the snow had been packed down, and Thunderpants rolled in to get beat by Frostboat for the first game of the day. However, consecutive victories over Animas Raptor from Tennessee (same team we beat day 1) and Cedarville’s B team raised spirits. We also saw Chase “cut like he’s at summer league” thereby making Todd proud.

I don't know how to say it other than we came out flat footed and arrogant to start this game. We had the majority of our roster this weekend (22 of 27 guys) but could not put together a good first game. We under estimated our opponents who most definitely out-played us. Sloppy turns and a lack of hustle prevented us from putting up a decent score. This game left a bitter taste until the last game of the weekend. Notable play: Rapsheet's layout score in the endzone.

Enigma vs KFC 13-8

Maybe we just needed a game to wake up, but against KFC we were clicking on all cylinders. We had many less mistakes then the Cakti game and capitalized on KFC's turns. This game was heated at times, but we executed on offense and D did their job getting breaks. Notable play: Ames' layout D.

Enigma vs Jurassic Shark 13-6

Shark seemed to be suffering from some roster turnover and even tho we had a handful of tight points, our D line spent a lot time on the field in this game.

Enigma vs Brickyard 9-13

The middle two games of the day would have set us up well for a good game against brickyard, but after what ended up being close to a 2 hour bye we were back to our round 1 selves. Brickyard scored their first O point then broke us 2 or 3 times before we could clear our heads and get back on track. We defaulted to making the same mental mistakes and miscues that killed us in the Cakti game. We rallied a few breaks of our own to come within 1 down 8-9, but Indy's new club team closed the game out well.

After a long day of ultimate ending nearly around 6 pm, a combination of the pool followed by large Margaritas at Texas Roadhouse seemed like the only viable way to prepare for Day 2 of this lovely tournament.
[Manly challenge: peach margaritias. Oh yea. Throw that kicker shot in to show everyone how much more of a man you are]

Enigma vs Pocket City Approach 13-10

We were determined to start off Day 2 better than Day 1, but this game was also closer than we would have liked. O line and D line both rolled the first half and then it felt like we slipped the clutch into neutral. Before we knew it they had broken us multiple times to bring the game within 1. From there we engaged 5th and thru the metal to the floor, but if there is one thing to take away from this weekend it is getting your mind right for each and every point. Just becauase we are up or down by a lot doesn't mean we are in the clear or out of the game. Keep your eyes on the prize and these rounds will go quicker in the future.

Enigma vs Brick City 13-0

Brick City looked like they had some athletes but could be low on numbers, but we didn't want to underestimate a team again (the way we did with Cakti). So we came out strong and executed on both sides of the field.

Enigma vs Cakti 13-8

It was time for revenge. Because Shark and Cakti had played today already, they decided to have us play Cakti rather than INFamous. We came out strong and made some big plays in the game. Weyers was all over the place on D (would you expect anything else) and Travis was open on every in cut. O line did have some errors late in this game as well, but D line prevailed to let Enigma end up on top.

All in all it was a good weekend with the premier club team from Dayton, OH. I'm glad to be back in the swing of club, although my body is a couple of days behind me. Time to ice, dueces!
Good things are happening in Dayton, be a part of it.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04332612146014547967noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877695363273545268.post-17203097054175464972012-10-08T14:39:00.001-07:002012-10-08T14:39:40.767-07:00Regionals '12This year Regionals was in Rockford, Illinois. Which is a welcoming location when compared to Wisconsin and Minnesota where Regionals has been the past 2 years. (although it does seem slightly less central now that our region is comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky). Regardless of the location, Enigma had one goal in mind. That goal was to again qualify for regionals, and this time make that the tournament we peak at, not Sectionals. In years past we have put together a good showing at Sectionals, but we struggle to get a full roster that performs at Regionals

To save this post from being extremely long, Enigma posted a 7th place finish out of a 10 team region with 3 wins and 4 losses. Close losses to Haymaker (13-15) and Natives (10-14) bumped us out of the 3rd and 5th place bracket on Sunday.

What pleases me about the weekend tho, was we were in contention the majority of the games. Ok ok, you're right. We only put up 7 on Machine and Beachfront, but I don't believe Machine enjoyed trading points till 4's to start the game. Beach also came out with a ferocity from a somewhat chippy game at Motown and made it known they were there to win. This just might shape up to be an interesting matchup to check out in the future. Mike, make sure you are there next time.

Things to keep in mind for next year: much of the talent on this Premier Dayton squad is remaining in the area. The college "feeder" teams are scheduling intense seasons that should make for some excellent returning players as well as sparking the interest for new players to tryout. Rumors have also been going around that a few Enigmen may be dabbling in the AUDL for it's second season.

Now that all the lies and hype are out of the way, here is the Regionals highlight reel. Full game footage will follow as my time and internet connection allow.
Get. Beat.I've been watching a few videos of Enigma past, and this is the year. This year is time. With a full roster the past two years, it's time to kick it up a notch.

From the past couple years, we have honed a few aspects of our game. But I am not sure that we have evolved yet.

We also have a terrible tendency of highlighting our best games, which unfortunately are not displaying the caliber of ultimate we need to be playing.

Want it more than the next guy. You are ignorant if you don't think other club teams are utilizing this "off season" for club playing with college teams, conditioning, or traveling to the AUDL combines. Here are a few of the clips from when the battery wasn't dead at Swill in the Ville:

Do what you can in this off season to both mentally and physically prepare yourself for a stellar club season. I've said before I've hit my economies of scale when it comes to ultimate. Fuck that. I just wasn't mentally prepared to take time to rest and recover, then get back to training. That time is now. Make it yours too.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04332612146014547967noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877695363273545268.post-34164375058017933762011-09-14T16:53:00.001-07:002011-09-15T12:12:00.412-07:00Sectionals '11Enigma came into Sectionals seeded 7th of 24 Club Open Teams. The 6 teams seeded above Enigma (in order) were Madcow, Evil, Lake Effect, Hustle, Jurassic Shark, and Super Phun Thyme. With the 7th seed going into the tournament, Enigma's pool turned out to be Evil, Enigma, Potbelly (mostly masters team from Columbus), and Breaker's Mark. On Saturday we did what we were supposed to do. We beat both Potbelly and Breaker's Mark and lost to Evil.

Against Evil, Enigma went down 3 breaks early, but with the leadership, experience, and intensity of a hungry D-line led by Weyers, Enigma fought back to earn the breaks back and then trade O points. The two teams enjoyed a huck fest and few mistakes until the score was 10-10 and Evil pulled away with 5 breaks to end the game.

By holding seed, Enigma was set up in a way that if we won 2 games on Sunday, we would advance to Regionals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the first weekend of October. This has been on everyone's mind throughout the entire summer, and Sunday of Sectionals was time to show it.

Game 1: Madador.
Enigma came out fired up against Madcow's reserve squad! Smooth handling, sharp cuts, and Dilworth's layout D's set Enigma up with a 5 point lead at half time. Madador was not put out tho, as they fought back with multiple breaks at the end of the game to bring the game within 3 points (14 - 11 in favor of Enigma). Phil Brodrick, the "Voice of the Generation" looked around, provided a motivational word or two, and Enigma worked in down to score and take the game 15-11. Half of what we needed for the day was complete, but games were only going to get more difficult.

Game 2: Hustle.
Enigma and Hustle met for the first time approximately a month before Sectionals at Nati '11 with Hustle taking the "W" 15-9. With a slightly bitter taste left in our mouths, Enigma was poised to yield different results this time around. Anderson vs. Giese. Weyers vs. Biz. Fudge vs. Bayer. This game was intense. Enigma pulled to start and ended up taking half up one break with the score 8-7. But right out of the half, an errant pass was D'd by Hustle to tie the game right back up. As the wind picked up and rain seemed imminent, handle movement and inside cuts were crucial for both teams. Enigma's D line was able to force turns and capitalize on the change of possession to put Enigma up 13-11. With Hustle pulling and the game being capped at 14, possession was everything. Mike, Phil, and Fudge worked the disc up thru inside cuts, quick breaks, and perfect hands. A steady goal line toss to T Knight caused an eruption on the Enigma sideline! We we're going to Regionals! But the games weren't over yet. Jurassic Shark, the 5th place overall seed just upset Lake Effect to play in the 3rd/4th place game.

Game 3: Jurassic Shark.
For almost the entire first half, the Shark game was breezing bye! Hucks from Evan on Shark, puts from Mike and Phil on Enigma were making this game fly! At 7-7, lightening was spotted as Shark was about to pull... 50 minutes and a few snacks later, we were back on the field. Enigma puts it in to take half 8-7 and after the delay we have a pretty short half time story. I apologize as the next 7 or 8 points are slightly hazy as Mr. Kaylor provided Cheez-It's and my priorities went there... But needless to say we come to an odd predicament. Enigma is up 15-14 and scores! Up by 2, games capped at 16, it must be over right? Again, apparently not. I really don't know the details of why we played the next point, but we did. After working the disc, Shark throw upline to Weyer's man. Biiiiiig mistake. A gorgeous eye-level layout propels Captain Airforce thru a monster layout D! 2 or 3 swings later, Enigma puts the disc in the end zone for the game! 17-14... and long story short after a few e-mails to observers and ultimate officials, the game should have been done at 16-14.

Game 4: Evil.
We were reaaaaally tired. They reaaaaally wanted to win. They did. 15-3 Evil.

Hammer of Thor: was split in 2 and unanimously awarded to Weyers and Dilworth for the continued layout D's and exceptional offense after getting said D's.

Gumball: Mark Anderson for relentless cutting and on the flip side intense D in the event of a turn.

I hope that made sense, I crossed back and forth between "Enigma" and "we" quite often. So I would appreciate it if this doesn't reach my 9th grade literature teacher... Anyways, if you weren't there to reap the glory with us, we got 3rd overall and I hope this helps your enjoyment levels.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04332612146014547967noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877695363273545268.post-45976471193484362922011-07-25T15:41:00.001-07:002011-07-25T16:05:35.535-07:00Swille in the VilleThis weekend Enigma not only showed up to Swill in the Ville, hosted by LouEvil; but we took away two items. One: a tie for a third place finish overall at the tournament. Two: a first place showing at the tournament party. How did this happen you ask? Well the voice of the generation (Phil for those of you less familiar) posed a simple question to Fudge.

Phil: "Do we win the party if it means a possible poor morning showing?" [more or less direct quote]
Fudge: *Raises Beer Mug*
Team: "CHEEEERS!"

And the party was as good as won. If you care for more intimate details I would highly recommend asking Michael about his facebook wall or Captain Crunch about his female literal enigma (a puzzling or inexplicable occurrence or situation).

W 13 vs. Poppycock Love 8

W 13 vs. Midnight Meat Train B 7

W 10 vs. Voodoo (SO) 8

W 12 vs. Black Flag 2

W 15 vs. Beachfront Property 11

L 5 vs. 15 Dire Wolf

We brought 21 players to Swille in the Ville, and are still getting acclimated O and D lines, but it is working wonders! We went 4-0 day 1 which set us up to play Beachfront Property first game on day 2. After a 4-12 loss to Beachfront Property at Scinny just weeks ago, Enigma came out prepared with a commanding offense and a defense poised for breaks, one of which was a near callahan from your favorite Captain Crunch.

Players of Enigma, keep one word in mind: Sectionals. We have 7 weeks until Sectionals. We have 7 weeks until one tournament that dictates our entire season. I just wrapped up a 5 mile run. I'm sure Mike pumped iron at the gym. I know Phil destroyed the rule book after this weekend. What did you do today?
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04332612146014547967noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877695363273545268.post-54798880534351777222011-05-24T19:42:00.000-07:002011-05-24T20:14:18.318-07:00First PracticeIt has been brought to my attention that the blog hasn't been updated much in the recent past, so hopefully this brief post will help. Enigma's 4th season has been through the pickup portion, and today was the first day of practice. As far as numbers go, we were just under 20 guys ranging from 4th year Enigma Veterans to Rookies.

Enigma prides themselves both on competitive sport as well as spirit of the game, and this mind set will be carried on through the 2011 club season. In addition to competing in the Club Series, Enigma is looking to grow the sport of Ultimate in the premier location of Dayton, OH. Surrounded by Cincinnati and Columbus, Dayton natives are forced to travel for summer leagues, high schoolers have no elders to look up to, and ultimate is really only focused in on at the College Level. This year, Enigma will be a competitive team, that turns no one away if the desire and passion to play ultimate is there.

Here is the tournament schedule, I was going to write something about smart cutting and field vision, but I found it's slightly complicated when all I want to do is sleep. I'll have to return to that...

Tournament Schedule:

6/24-6/25 - Scinny in Cincinnati, OH
7/9-7/10 - Hoosier Hodown in Bloomington, IN
7/23-7/24 - Swille in the Ville in Louisville, KY
8/6-8/7 - Kentucky Classic in Louisville, KY
8/20-8/21 - Cooler Classic in Milwaukee, WI
8/27-8/28 - Nati Open in Cincinnati
Sectionals
RegionalsAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04332612146014547967noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-877695363273545268.post-42800602065242148862011-05-01T13:47:00.000-07:002011-05-01T13:54:40.125-07:002011 ClubPractice Schedule

Tuesdays 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Thursdays 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Saturdays 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm (TENTATIVE)

Check us on FFindr!

Check us on USAU!

This season looks very promising with a bunch of young and new interest coming to Enigma.
